Christianity and Neo-Platonism

by Nataša Pantović

Just got hold of an eBook from the Maltese collection of antiques, Theology, from Albertus, Magnus, Saint, 11930-1280, Dominicans, Venice (Italy), Ripelin, Hugh, ca.1205 - ca.1270, Landino, Cristoforo, 1424-1504.

Compendium Theologicae Veritatis Manuscript 1 Malta Public Library Albertus Magnus Saint

Compendium Theologicae Veritatis Manuscript 1 Malta Public Library Albertus Magnus Saint

In the Middle Ages, this book was considered to be the most widespread manual of Christian theology.

It was distributed, studied, researched, passed from a convent to the other as a Christian thought. Let me tell you why! The work is divided into seven parts treating different theological aspects of the Catholic faith from the Aristotle perspective! I am not joking! It was the famous Aristotle 380 BC, that Saint Albert paraphrased. So it was a real treat to see how deep Aristotle philosophy is engraved in the Christian thought!

Within the scientific observations of different types of atoms at similar energy levels, the states with the similar behaviour patterns are called: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. The Ancient Greek system of Aristotle, a student of Plato attending the Plato’s Academy found in 387 BC in Athens, better known as the teacher, advisor, consultant of Alexander the Great who was the first one to travel to Egypt.

Aristotle was appointed as the head of the royal academy of Macedon Kingdom. During Aristotle's time (384–322 BC) in the Macedonian court, he gave lessons not only to Alexander, but also to two other future kings: Ptolemy and Cassander. During the reign of the Argead king Philip II (359–336 BC), for a moment in history Macedonia subdued mainland Greece and Thrace. His son Alexander the Great travelled to North Africa and far East and has died in Babylon  in 323 BC in the city he planned to establish as his capital. Alexander's legacy includes the Greco-Buddhism, and the presence of Greek speakers in Persian lands.

Plato's own most profound philosophical influences are Socrates and Pythagoras.

Plato and Pythagoras shared a mystical approach to the soul probably influenced by Orphism.

Albertus Magnus, Saint Albert the Great

Albertus Magnus, also known as Saint Albert the Great or Albert of Cologne, was a German Catholic Dominican friar that during the 13th Century studied Aristotle and Plato and has written philosophical studies synthesising the work of the philosophers of Ancient Greek into the Christian doctrine.

Life of Albert the Great

Albert studded at the Italian University of Padua and was a lector at Cologne. Was sent to the University of Paris to complete his theological education and that was the time when he completed his major work. One of his students was believe it or not, St. Thomas Aquinas.

He died in 1280 and was buried in Cologne. In 1931 Pope Pius XI declared Albert a saint.

He paraphrased most of the works of Aristotle. He adopted the Aristotelian philosophical scientific program to prepare a unified theory of medieval Christian intellectual culture. Albert had a strong bias in favor of what we call today “Neo-Platonism”.

Together with his student Thomas Aquinas he supported this “natural philosophy” as a Christian philosophical vision.

He wrote commentaries on the Bible, commentaries on all the known works of Aristotle, Albertus undertook as he states “to make intelligible to the Latins” all the branches of natural science, ethics, metaphysics.

The Event was organized by the Maltese NGO Animal Liberation Malta.

ALM's mission is to raise awareness and take action against all forms of animal abuse.

Activists Unite in Conscious Living!

An activist is one who uses vigorous campaigning to bring about political or social change.

Environmental or Eco activism is versatile:

  • the protection of nature through conservation or preservation
  • the protection of the human environment (that is more and more polluted reducing our quality of life)
  • the protection of animals, trees, oceans.

At the event, Nataša told the participants in her speech: "Activists Unite!" "What a gathering of young illuminated hearts! All united in their love for animals..."

The full 6min  can be viewed here:

"Our team, responsible for street activism, worked ispeachndependently on this project in collaboration with the International NGO, Our Planet. Theirs too, to make this happen. It was a touching ceremony commemorating the billions of animals that die each year at human hands. Despite the adversities and restrictions, the organising team managed to pull this off, bringing together a small number of people dedicated to the cause, paying tribute to animals and joining more than 70 cities worldwide on the same day. Several touching speeches and live cello animated the ceremony, including reading the Declaration of Animal Rights in English & Maltese and concluding the ceremony by inviting participants to sign the declaration. Many heartwarming dedications and words of solidarity towards animals were documented on paper. We then transitioned to the celebration part, coming together to finish the day off with positivity and hope, being grateful for the fact that more & more people are making the connection and becoming conscious of Animal Rights. During the ceremony and celebration, social distancing was observed and the participants adhered to the Covid-19 restrictions. This is the beginning of a new era for Animal Rights in Malta, and we have a lot of work to do to bring about Animal Liberation. Hopefully, next year’s NARD will be bigger, better and more impactful. A big thank you goes to everyone who attended." The Organiser.

Conscious Parenting: Mindful Living Course for Parents by Nataša Pantović and Ivana Milosavljevic, AoL Mindfulness #5, Size: 228 pg 8” x 10”. This 12 modules personal development course is designed for parents. Using self-development techniques to support “positive parenting”, the ultimate goal is the physical, mental and emotional health of the whole family. Within parenting, the goal is to promote: an unobstructed learning from nature and freedom in the learning environment. Conscious living, through adopting a sustainable life-style, empowers eco-living, art, music, social bonding, the mind training with practices of mindfulness for kids and parents, developing emotional intelligence, creative thinking, and offering alternatives for modern technology. “Knowing that every woman and man is a star is one thing, walking the path while giving the individuals empowerment to act, within this matrix of choices, is something totally different. If we are not ready for the Cosmos manifesting in all its forms within our little ones, including rebellion, we will subdue his or her life-force.” Inspired by Waldorf educational model, and Finland educational system, with personal-development tools to look into parenting goals, dreams and priorities. In 2018 the book was voted as one of 5 of the best Personal Development Courses for kids and parents and had been on a number of Goodreads users’ lists for the Best Books for Parents. A-Ma or Playing the Glass Bead Game with Pythagoras, a Historical Novel by Nataša Pantović, Year: 2017, Publisher: Artof4Elements. Paperback: 207 pages, Size: 6"x9, a historical fiction novel set in the 17th century Chinese Macao. A mystical journey of Portuguese settlers to Macao, Jesuit Priests, Dutch traders, Chinese governors, and artists, set in the Age of Enlightenment during the Dutch attack to Macao in 1622, the Reform of Chinese Calendar in 1630-s, with Father Adam Schall's appointment to the Chinese Board of Mathematicians during 1650-s. "Was Athens black at the time of the ancient Greeks or was it full of Slavs that during the Dark Ages were not allowed to have their own European history? All my characters do have strong political, ideological and moral commitments, their ideas are ground-breaking; it is a science against the Church, male against female, East against West conversation. Holding up a mirror to society of ancient worlds can be fanatical or too obvious within the storytelling environment, so I had to break the rhythm with myths, with art, with dreams. This novel is, of course, about the search for truth, but from the goddess perspective, about love and union, of the priestesses that have given us the first commandment “Do not kill"” Nataša in an interview with Sunday Times. The main protagonist is Ama, an African alchemist, Goddess, a guru, a lover, a story-teller that inspires and gathers artists, preachers, priests, philosophers from all around the world within the magic settings of her coffee house. ISBN-13: 978-9995754198.

Conscious Creativity: Ancient Europe's Mindfulness Meditations by Nataša Pantović

Learning from Ancient Worlds Mystics about creativity and creative thought. When East meets West in Platonism, Neo-Platonism, Pythagoras, and the Philosophers of Ancient Greece, seen through the art and mysticism of saints, scientists and sages, the likes of Leonardo da Vinci, Plato, Jung, Krishnamurti, or Aurobindo... The subconscious material or mind chitta has its own "body" and while ascending the Spiral of Consciousness we realize how we relate to each other in our drive for Goodness... The Universe's Micro and Macro Cosmos is at our feet searching to manifest as deeper knowledge and understanding of our little Self within Conscious Living with all the sentient beings on our little planet Earth. Some 200,000 years ago in South-East Africa, Homo Sapiens entered the world stage. Following the DNA story, around 80,000 years ago humans left Africa. By 40,000 years ago, we were all around the World. Yet we speak of the time of no major travel. Following the “goodness” and “democracy” story, we research the Ancient Europe's first civilizations dating back to 7,000 years ago, the culture of Danube, today's Balkan countries. In Malta, for around 1,500 years, flourished a unique culture that has built stone temples using megalithic stones above and under the ground, worshiping Death, Mother Goddess, Creation and Dreams.

Inspired or lost in the technology matrix?

Mindful Being - Nataša Pantović Nuit

We live surrounded by an increasingly complex matrix of impulses (transmitted via TV, media and the internet) that allow strangers of all sorts to interfere in our mental, emotional and spiritual development. Understanding this intricate network and how the human brain interacts with it is becoming our door to happiness and health.

Our interaction with the Net, with TV and with computers has replaced our interaction with nature which in its magical way nurtures our cognitive, emotional, physical and psychological well-being

The self or the personality is a bundle of socially-influenced traits that emerges and is formed gradually. We are shaped by our parents and neighbours, by our religion, the media, by various marketing agendas of major corporations, by our state’s politics, by the way we behave or misbehave towards our own body, our mind, the environment, animals and plants, and our planet Earth.

So, what would we need to do to understand the importance of a healthy body, to manage our emotions and nurture love for our friends and family, to become aware of how we can make a positive impact on our society or the environment, or discover the purpose of life and ways to be happy?

A great deal is known about the links between our behaviour and TV, and between our emotions and computer games, because there have been thousands of studies on these subjects. Researchers have all asked the same question – whether there is a link between exposure to violence (on TV or in a game) and violent behaviour.

Schools that inspire children to learn dream or reality

Schools that inspire children to learn – dream or reality?

One can safely assume that all parents have the same goal: that of choosing the best methods for their children to grow into inspired and enthusiastic adults. Helping children develop their highest potential, and taking care of each child’s development is a dream all parents share.

Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learnt in school- Albert Einstein

But unfortunately we are often forced to forget this dream, because of circumstances, lack of knowledge, lack of funds, social pressure to pass exams, or simply because our children are surrounded by teachers who are too tired or not very inspiring.

Albert Einstein’s famous quote, “Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learnt in school” leads us to reflect on the possible bottlenecks within the ‘traditional’ schooling system.

Tapping the Brain's Magic

Mindful Being - Nataša Pantović Nuit

The human brain is truly extraordinary. A healthy brain has some 200 billion neurons. The conscious mind controls our brain for only five per cent of the day, whereas the subconscious mind has control of our thoughts 95 per cent of the time.

A human being has 70,000 thoughts per day- Natasa Pantovic

A human being has 70,000 thoughts per day. The brain requires up to 20 per cent of the body’s energy despite being only two per cent of the human body by weight.

Somewhere within our brain we have a potential for higher mathematics, complex physics, art, and amazing richness of thoughts, feeling, and sensations.

However, although we are mostly controlled by our brains, we are yet to learn how to best use its potential.

Perhaps this is the task of the next phase of our evolution – utilising our brains better, understanding the 95 per cent of its subconscious functionality, becoming more creative, less bombarded by useless thoughts, more focused, and more peaceful.

In her book My Stroke of Insight, brain scientist Jill Bolte Taylor, who recovered from a massive left hemisphere blood clot, talks about her experiences during the eight years it took her to completely recover.

She was unable to walk, talk, read, write or recall her life.

However, she refers to this state of her being as Nirvana, a word used to describe a profound peace of mind.

Describing the right brain, she says it is like a parallel processor. It thinks in pictures, it is non-verbal, it is non-linear and creative. The right brain has no sense of time, it is playful, it sees humour, and it is lost in the flow.

The right brain is compassionate andis associated with the heart. It is intuitive and takes us into the peacefulness of the world around us.

The left brain is like a serial processor; it is interested in the past and future. It thinks in language and is concerned with details. It is logical and it is the critical, analytical part of our being.

Traditional educational methods, its curriculum and its focus on examinations emphasize the development of the ‘left brain’ hemisphere. With this approach, students quickly lose motivation and interest for science and its magic.

Two fundamental assumptions of formal education are that students retain the knowledge they acquired in schools, and that they can apply it in situations outside the classroom. But is this correct? How much do we really remember and how relevant is this knowledge?

Geniuses like Albert Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart created their masterpieces from a place of inspiration and creativity. It is likely they had an ability to fully utilise the virtues of both brain hemispheres.

To understand children’s capability to learn, educational psychology develops and applies theories of human development.

Rudolf Steiner’s model of children’s development links physical, emotional, mental and moral development. In his approach, he values equally the rational and imaginative approaches to learning.

So schools inspired by his approach teach art and dancing not only to awaken and strengthen the children’s expression and to stimulate imagination, but also as a way of understanding and mastering cognitive thinking.

An example of an alternative method of learning is a movement therapy included in the Waldorf curriculum called Eurythmy. The word comes from Greek, meaning a beautiful or harmonious rhythm.

Eurythmy works with mathematical forms, beginning with a straight line and curve, and proceeding to more complex geometric figures developing a child’s coordination and concentration. Rods or balls are also used in exercises to develop precision in movement. Philosophically, it acknowledges a child’s capacity to communicate through non-verbal gestures.

Eurythmy is made up of discreet movements that represent various phonetic sounds. The feelings and thoughts have gestures that are beyond our conscious awareness. Eurythmy attempts to explore the variety of feelings and thoughts through movement, language, rhythm, colour and form. Through this art, children learn the wisdom of emotional intelligence that helps their holistic growth.

Nordic Countries Teaching Methods

Conscious Parenting Mindful Living Course for Parents - Nataša Pantović Nuit

Unesco statistics of tertiary education enrollment by country show that while 21.5 per cent of Maltese students successfully enrol into university each year, 70 per cent of the students in Nordic countries continuing their education after secondary school.

Nordic countries use techniques and tools that encourage collaboration- Nataša Pantovic

Comparing the Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland) with other EU countries, the difference clearly stands out. Steering towards a knowledge society for them meant higher education became a must. It also appears that the Nordic educational system uses methodologies and tools that ultimately encourage and inspire learning.

An interesting study by Yann Algan and Pierre Cahuc examines teaching methods and their application in different countries. They surveyed teachers of around 30 countries, asking them the following questions about their teaching practices: a) How often do students work in groups? b) How often do students work on projects? c) How often do students participate in role play, and d) How often does the teacher include discussions?

The results of the study are extremely insightful and show that teaching methods differ tremendously across countries. As a rule, the Nordic countries use techniques and tools that encourage collaboration; students work much more in groups, do projects together, and ask teachers questions. The central relationship in the classroom is among students.

Remembering Our Past Events and Nirvana Azzopardi's Message

f you have ever organised a Festival, you know that a Festival earns only when it is fully established, all the beginings are done for charity. So for the love of , for the love of , for the love of , for the love of , we have decided to included Eden Foundation as the main benefitory of all the entrance fees. My memories recall 1,000s of people, kids and parents loving every bit of the program, screams, laughter, entertainment, but also some last minute mis-haps. At one point, a security guard did not show up, so I had to personally stay a night without a policeman, protecting all the drinks and equipment, spending that night in a car, as a 30-years old woman, patrolling the Gzira open Gardens. Locals who know Gzira at night, at that time, would know what that means. In the middle of the night I was faced with a drunken drug addict who tried to carry away a crate of beer, and had to convince him to let it go.

Nirvana Azzopardi TV personality Malta

The PR and Stage Hosting of the Children Festival was done by Nirvana Azzopardi.

Nirvana Ciavola Azzopardi has died in 2013 after a two-year battle with breast cancer.

The 40-year-old mother of two aged 10, and five, was a TV personality when she joined our team. In her 30s, full of life and enthusiasm, I was more than happy to entrust her with the management of the event's PR and with hosting the Stage programs.

We were invited on different Radio and TV shows, working many hours a day marketing the Festival at my home that servered as an office. Getting to know her, was a privilege and an extraordinary experience!

Sharing with you all this  and  Nirvana's Last Message:

Having cancer doesn't come with many perks. However, there are a few. One is the chance to tell people you care about that you love them and are grateful for their presence in your life. Another is the huge learning curve you go through. Being faced with your own mortality gives you perspective, lots of it. It aligns life and sets about creating order in the 'what matters and what doesn't ' department. Yet another perk is that people really listen to you because every word you utter could be your last one, I guess! So I have taken these three advantages and used them to write this letter to all the people who care enough about me to be here today. A letter to thank you and give you some advice. And because these ARE actually my last words, I really hope that you will listen!

The first piece of advice I give you is not to wait till you are sick to tell the people you love that you love them.

Even better than telling them, show them...

The Best Books On The Ancient Mediterranean Classics Beyond The Usual! by Natasa Pantovic

Asked by @Sepherd to create The Best #booksreviews On The Ancient #Mediterranean #Classics Beyond The Usual! The Books I Picked & Why...

No. 1 is Language of Amarna - Better known as Amarna Heresy, a philosophical discussion from Ancient Egypt's #Babylon about Monotheism and Trinity written 3,000 years ago.

My No. 2 is The Secret History of Egypt at the Time of the Exodus by Osman, a British #Egyptologist born in Cairo who says that Moses was born in Egypt and that Tut-Ankh-Amun had a very similar “story” to Jesus.

My personal favourite of Ancient Mediterranean classics, printed more than 5,000 years ago is Inanna, Lady of Largest Heart: Poems of the Sumerian High Priestess Enheduanna Enheduanna (who wrote in Sumerian), dating to around 2400 BC. Enheduanna is the earliest known Female Poet. She was the High Priestess of the goddess Inanna and the moon god Nanna (Sin). She lived in the Sumerian city-state of Ur in Syria.

#4 is The Derveni Papyrus: #Cosmology, #Theology found in Macedonia now in Thessaloniki Museum, Greece.

Derveni-papyrus oldest ancient greek BC

Published in 340 BC it is an Orphic book of mystical initiations. The scroll was carefully unrolled and the fragments joined together, thus forming 26 columns of text. which was used in the mystery cult of #Dionysus by the 'Orphic initiators'. It is a philosophical treatise written as a commentary on an Orphic poem, a Theogony concerning the birth of the gods, compiled in the circle of the #philosopher AnaXagoras.

The scroll contains a philosophical treatise on a lost poem describing the birth of the gods and other beliefs focusing on Orpheus, the mythical musician who visited the underworld to reclaim his dead love. The Orpheus cult tells us of a single creator god, of the trinity, of resurrection, of a virgin's child, back in the Macedonian region of Ancient Greece that was the Ancient Europe during 400 BC... Both Orpheus and Heraclitus compose allegories about the secrets of nature and of God. In the Orphic cosmogony, he was writing only for the "pure in hearing".
